Robert Schumann: Fantasy-pieces
Claude Debussy: Cello Sonata
Sergei Prokofiev: Cello Sonata
with Ian Scarfe, piano
Why do we love this program? It represents contrasting places and times: the German Romantic period, the French Impressionist period, and Russia from the middle of the 20th century. It represents musical genius: Schumann's lyrical expression, Debussy's wild imagination, and Prokofiev bypassing the limitations of state censorship. And besides all that, the piano and cello make a great sound together.
